A boreal species commonly found on rock walls. Feeds on ultraplankton (heterotrophic bacteria, cyanobacteria, picoeukaryotes and nanoeukaryotes) by active suspension feeding. Multioscular; oscula responds negatively to touch by closing (Ref. 96635).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
