Total population is about 1 million pairs. This bird species is known to be slaughtered for its oil, being heavily exploited for 50 years up until 1918. At present, the population has recovered and is now stable (Ref. 84934). This species is gregarious, noisy and aggressive and it is known to breed in large colonies (Ref. 91362).
