Found intertidal of estuaries on rocks. Also found in sheltered rocky shores (Ref. 125338). Bysally attached in the supra-littoral zone, where it is the highest-zoned mussel (Ref. 125512).

Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam.
