Massive-amorphous to globular. Black externally, tan internally. Surface with conules 0.2 - 0.3 cm high, 0.1 - 0.4 cm apart. Membrane-bearing oscules: 0.1 - 0.5 cm wide; scattered or on mound-like elevations. Compressible, tough to tear. Overgrown by other organisms (Ref. 415).
Common on mangroves, sea grass, and shallow reefs; 0.5 to 5 m deep (Ref. 415).
