Colonies large and unfascicled, with long stems, branches and pedicels; hydranths elongated; complementary nematocysts atrichous isorhizas. Only immature blastostyles of both sexes observed; males reducing tentacles in course of development, females with normal number of tentacles and unbranched spadix (Ref. 3086).

Members of the order Anthoathecata are mostly colonial A-form hydroids. Life cycle: The zygote develops into planula inside the gonophore and is later released as an actinula which metamorphoses into polyp stage.
