Collected locally for food in the Indo-Pacific, but mainly used for its shell (Ref. 349). Found beached (Ref. 130068), and in clean sandy bottoms; subtidal. Sometimes in very dense colonies (Ref. 75835). Members of the family Cerithiidae are herbivore-deposit feeders (Ref. 1385).
